PNBA Book Award short-list

November 26, 2009 - 6:04 pm No Comments

I am highly honored and pleased to announce that Boneshaker has been short-listed for the PNBA book award! This is wonderful news, for if Boneshaker makes the final round, it will be featured at member stores through the spring of 2010!

(The PNBA is the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association, a group of independent book vendors in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska. I’ve attended their trade shows several years running, and they’ve always been exceedingly kind to me – and very supportive. I thank them most deeply, and I recommend their stores most heartily.)

General update

November 16, 2009 - 2:09 am No Comments

  • People have been emailing to ask where to find copies of Boneshaker here in Seattle. Apparently it’s been selling out around town (which is a good thing), and people can’t find it (which is a bad thing). Let it now be known: both the Barnes & Noble locations at Pacific Place and Northgate are well stocked with copies, all of which are signed; and likewise, the University Book Store in the U-district has a stash of signed copies (at the moment, as of this posting). Please, have at.

  • If you’d like something signed to you, personally (or to a loved one … hey, the holidays are just over the horizon there, aren’t they?), you can order such a book through the University Book Store.

  • Regarding electronic editions of Boneshaker — you can find the book here on the Kindle or via this listing at Diesel E-Books. This is literally all the information on the subject I have at my disposal.

  • If you are a local (or even local-ish) bookseller and you’d like to get your stock signed, drop me an email at – and I’ll be glad to talk about coming to your store. It might take me a day or two depending on my work load and your location, but I’m always happy to accommodate you if at all possible.

BONESHAKER makes PW’s Best-Of List

November 3, 2009 - 12:28 am No Comments

This is a first for me, and I’m so excited I can hardly see straight: Boneshaker has made it to PW’s best-of 2009 list! Just click the link and scroll down to the “Science Fiction/Fantasy/Horror” section to find it, right there next to China MiĆ©ville — a position which made me do hand-flappies of glee.

By way of a general update, things have been going quite well for Boneshaker. Last I heard it was already in a third printing (in less than a month), and sales seem to be holding steady; so here’s hoping that these tidings bode well for yet more books in The Clockwork Century!* Heaven knows I have no shortage of ideas on the subject.

In other news, if you’re local to the Seattle area — or if you’ll be passing through on the fourth of November — please come out and join me with Jeff VanderMeer and Cat Rambo at the University Book Store, on the University of Washington campus. We’ll be there reading and signing from our respective works, talking about steampunk and other varieties of speculative fiction, and generally raising a ruckus starting at 7:00 p.m.

And that’s just about all the news I’ve got for now. Thanks for reading!

* Beyond the two upcoming, Dreadnought and Clementine, available next year.
